Finding your perfect frames can be stressful. Even more now with so many frames to choose from. Below you will read simple tips to keep in mind when searching for your frames.
Do you want two pairs of frames?
- Sunglasses are great and unless you put transitions on your lenses its highly recommended. Sunglasses with polarized lenses eliminate glare not like transitions or tinted lenses. Its great for outdoor activities and driving. If you are sensitive to glare I highly recommend it.
- If your work requires to be at the computer for an extended time its great having a pair of glasses for just that. More so when you require progressive lenses. Progressive lenses are sometimes limited on the intermediate prescription. Making it a bit challenging. With computer progressive you will have a bigger window to see from and the distortion will be reduced, while also giving you more reading space.
Any allergies?
Bellow are some of the materials to use when you have skin allergies.
- Titanium is a hypoallergenic material if its not combined with any other metal.
- Stainless Steel is also hypoallergenic.
- Optyl material in other words plastic is hypoallergenic.
- Nose pads with titanium pads, gold-plated metal pads, and crystal pads are also important to get when you have material allergies.
Have a high prescription?
There has been so many times were I see myself eliminating frames because of my prescription. Here are some suggestions once you have your prescription ready.
If you prescription is higher than -4.00:
- Get a high index lens to reduce the thickness on the sides.
- Avoid larger frames. Having a minus prescription means your eyes and face will be minified. If I were looking at the sides of your face, it will seem narrower than the rest of your face.
- Try getting plastic frames to hide the thickness on the edges. (Side note on the material: Some plastic cannot be adjusted. Ask your optician which frame will keep its adjustment. Minus lenses are sometime flat in the front, making the frame open up.)
- If you still want to get rimless of semi-rimless frames with this type of prescription I recommend polishing the sides if possible. This makes the lenses seem lighter.
If your prescription is higher than a +4.00:
- Get a high index lens to reduce center thickness.
- Avoid larger frames. Lager frames means more lenses which make it weight more.
- Avoid getting frames that are too straight. Most times if you get frames with a flatter top the lenses do not fit properly and it bulges out.
